Stevige rockband met stekkers uit Nieuw Zeeland. Ze stonden daar op 1 met Young Blood. Thom Powers en Alisa Xayalith zijn het creatieve hart van de band. Worden vergeleken met Passion Pit en MGMT. Gaat mij iets te ver, maar ze komen makkelijk boven het maaiveld uit. Debuutalbum: Passive Me, Aggressive You.

The Naked and Famous have been likened to American Indy Pop heroes Passion Pit and MGMT. “On one hand it’s kind of flattering, it’s nice to be seen alongside things that aren’t… making us kind of New Zealand,” says Thom. “It’s nice to be seen in a different light. But it’s also frustrating that some people can only hear things on a surface level and miss out on all the intricacies.”

Willems Sunday Re-issue: Animals – House of the rising sun

The song might have been lost to obscurity had it not been collected by folklorist Alan Lomax, who, along with his father, was a curator of the Archive of American Folk Song for the Library of Congress. On an expedition with his wife to eastern Kentucky Lomax set up his recording equipment in Middlesborough, Kentucky in the house of a singer and activist called Tilman Cadle. On September 15, 1937 he recorded a performance by Georgia Turner, the 16 year-old daughter of a local miner. He called it "The Risin' Sun Blues."

Het is soul. Het is gospel. Het is zwart. Het is de oude Moby. Het is de nieuwe Adele. Van het nieuwe album: 21.

I’m very excited, nervous, eager, anxious but chuffed to announce my new album! It’s taken a while and it knocked me for six when writing it. It’s different from 19, it’s about the same things but in a different light. I deal with things differently now. I’m more patient, more honest, more forgiving and more aware of my own flaws, habits and principles. Something that comes with age I think. So fittingly this record is called 21. Everyday something happens that affects me, whether it be relationships, events, something I hear, something I see or something I feel. All of which is helping define me and turning me in to who I’m becoming. The whole reason I called my first album 19 was about cataloging what happened to me then and who I was then, like a photo album you see the progression and changes in a person throughout the years. I tried to think of other album titles but couldn’t come up with anything that represented the album properly, I kept swerving 21 thinking it was obvious. But why not be obvious? I discovered lots of artists I’d never heard of, particularly Wanda Jackson, Allison Krauss, Yvonne Fair, Andrew Bird, Neko Case, Lady Antebellum and Steel Drivers who I fell in love with. Then I delved in to more from artists I’ve loved forever – Mary J Blige, Kanye West, Elbow, Mos Def, Alanis Morissette, Tom Waits and Sinead O’Connor. There’s something in every single one of these artists that has really really inspired 21. So it is what it is! I cant wait for you to start hearing pieces of it!

Paragraph: "Around the time our original drummer left the band, we began experimenting with drum machines. That really shaped our sound. When we play live, we use three forms of drums: electronic drums and two percussionists. It's been working out for us as far as dance music is concerned, and we still feel like we have freedom to play with our dynamics. It's been nice. As far as recording goes, we feel like we've only just begun to take advantage of technology."

Nova Nova - Prisoner's song

Hotel Costes 14 is weer zo'n cd uit de reeks die je goed laat wegdrijven van de kust op je luchtbedje tijdens je strandvakantie. Op dat album staat Nova Nova met een lekker trippy jazzy nummer dat lang mag duren. Voor sommigen liftmuziek, voor mij ligmuziek. Nova Nova is een Frans duo dat lounge en chill al in 1992 heeft uitgevonden. Het duo is overigens net uit elkaar. Marc Durif gaat alleen door en dit is zijn eerste track.

As a classic styled pianist - in a rather self taught manner, Marc Durif likes to jump from Chopin or Bach’s pieces to Chic’s hits. He composes in a different manner, using synth, samplers and sequencers.
