Electric guest - This head I hold / American Daydream

Great LA band comes up with soulful, funked-up popretro-ish Motown hittrack that will stick in your ears. Producer Danger Mouse and a great singer makes great band. Place them next to Mayer Hawthorne or Gnarls Barkley.

Citizens! - Caroline

Almost summer, time for name songs of sweet and pretty girls. For instance: Caroline by Citizens! Debut album is 'Here we are' and produced by Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand. This will be a huge success. Mark my words.

Goose - Real

Classic shit you should know: Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band - Big eyed beans from Venus

The album Clear Spot is our favourite. No flaws on this LP from 1972. His best band ever with the impressive solo guitarist Zoot Horn Rollo (photo right in front). The Captain sings almost soul-ish. The arrangements are heartwarming. All the experiments really work perfect. (go to the Rare Record Reporter)

Classic shit you should know: Lalo Shifrin - King Kong

Lalo Schifrin (80 years old) is known as film composer. Mission Impossible, Bullit, Dirty Harry, he wrote more than 100 scores. In 1976 his jazz funk album Black Widow was a real hit. His next album was called Towering Toccata. Not as good as the former, but with the killer funky wah wah flute track King Kong. (go to The Rare Record Reporter)

Husky - Animals and Freaks (live)

Husky is an Australian folky band that can write songs. Remember the first album of Coldplay. Before they went stadion? Fragile songs, beautifully crafted. Singer songwriter stuff, with a band. Album: Forever so.

Father John Misty - Nancy from now on

He left Fleet Foxes in 2011 as drummer. Josh Tillman. Dark, strange, misty. New album: fear fun. Retro as hell.

Norah Jones - Say goodbye

Well. Moi writing about Norah Jones. Ten years after her debut. 20 million album copies later. I can't help it. But I like her new album. Little broken hearts.

Angus Stone - Bird on the Buffalo

Dude from Australia. Normally he performs together with his sister Julia Stone. This is from Angus' solo album Broken Brights. “I feel like it would be my most personal work to date,” Angus expressed in a press release. "I think I’m constantly introverting to that place, to that pocket I’ve always wanted to live inside amongst the songs & the tales that I’ve written. This album holds an essence that I’ve been searching for, for a long time.”

Dr. Dog - Warrior man

Great end 60's sound coming from the new and 7th album of Dr. Dog - Be the void. This rock band from West Grove, Pennsylvania is stil growing.

Breton - Interference

Breton is a group of musicians and award-winning indie film-makers which co-operated with bands such as Temper Trap and Tricky. Breton's debut album is called Other People, first single is 'Interference'. Indie-electro sound that sticks in one's mind.

Passenger - Things that stop you dreaming

Lyrics. How important? Very, if you ask me. Michael Rosenberg can write great songs and great lyrics. About the name of the band: "I think it fits my observational style of writing ... it's the idea that you're in the passenger seat of a moving vehicle and sort of watching the world go by and witnessing things of people's lives and it's about being disengaged, an observer, slightly outside of a situation. Album: All the Little Lights.

Michael Kiwanuka - I'll Get Along

New vid from singer songwriter with a lot of soul. Some bloggers put him in a row with Otis Redding, Bill Withers and Randy Newman. I think that's a bit to early. Album: Home again.

iLiketrains - Mnemosyne

I like iLiketrains a lot. This track comes from their coming new album: The Shallows. The band: "We work together with producer Richard Formby, whose work on the last two Wild Beast records we have greatly admired." home
