White rabbits - They were wrong/we were wrong

It's frightening. Zo heet het nieuwe album. En zo goed zijn ze. Maarten schreef over White denim. Nu dan ook maar gelijk White rabbits. Doet denken aan Spoon, die maar niet willen doorbreken, met een vleugje Specials. De zanger van Spoon produceerde de plaat, dus dat klopt wel. White rabbits moet snel doorbreken. Ze leven namelijk al een jaar samen in een huis in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Zeven man, in één huis met stapelbedden. Recent getekend bij het label van Radiohead en Underworld. Live zijn ze een feest, zie de videos.

Thom Yorke - All for the best

Thom Yorke's new song. 'All for the Best', is a cover for the Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy tribute album. Thom's very own brother, in addition to having his own track on the album under his band Unbelievable Truth, provides the backing vocals for All for the Best. I'm pretty sure this is the first time the two brothers have ever recorded together. It sounds like a natural progression from the work he recorded for 'The Eraser' album and I'm assuming the production is once again by Nigel Godrich.

Hottest rockband uit Australie komt in Europa door met een stevig nummer. Voor en na de remix dit keer. Maak zelf maar uit welke versie jij het beste vind. Axwell en Dirty South deden het vuile werk. De BBC koos de band met het album Conditions in de top 15 van Topsounds of 2009. Voila. Spelen 21 augustus op Lowlands.

Stornoway - Zorbing

Een van de meest bijzondere liedjes die ik de laatste tijd heb gehoord. Je wordt er fris en fruitig van. Van een band uit Oxford. Geprezen door The Daily Telegraph tot The Guardian. Binnenkort op Glastonbury?

The band consists of an ornithologist, a rusty russian translator, a South African pirate captain, a human radio and a kitchen sink. They were first united in a snow-encrusted garage in Oxford and have since attracted the attention of Dr & Mrs Killjoy the neighbours and their android children. None of the band have ever been to Stornoway. But Brian once got to within 37 miles of it.

Passion Pit - To kingdom come

Elektrorockband Passion Pit komt met volgende single. Debuutalbum: Manners. Must have. Alhoewel ik de gekte rondom deze band soms wel een beetje overdreven vind. The Reeling blijft een lekker nummer, dat weer wel natuurlijk.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic zeros - 40 day dream

Soms heb je van die indiefolknummers, die je keer op keer weer draait en maar niet gaan vervelen. Geweldige track van band uit LA die binnenkort op Pukkelpop staat. Ze gaan het liefst met het publiek samen muziek maken, let maar op. Hippies zijn het, hele hippe hippies. Debuutalbum: Up from below.

The sixties are back in a very good way. LA Times: Their big, open-hearted anthems evoke a different (but perhaps no less turbulent) era when cynicism and irony didn't course through pop music like countermelodies. And the band's aesthetic, no matter how organic its evolution, screams throwback -- right down to touring in a converted school bus with the band's name in script on the side and a driver named Cornfed.

Excuses voor het zwarte gat hieronder, maar de muziek maakt een hoop goed.

Band uit Wenen, Oostenrijk. Stiekem wel een beetje geluisterd naar Death Cab for Cutie. Hoedanook, wel ff lekker rocken. Waren in eigen land support act van Snow Patrol.

Band from Vienna, yes. Sounds a bit like Death Cab for Cutie? Yes. But its ok. Good rocktrack anyway.

Staat op het album van (let op) Yellow Tricycle - A lovers prayer. Ja, hetzelfde nummer van Saez zwerft al jaren over het net. Ben je er nog?

The Dead Weather - Treat Me Like Your Mother

Weer een band waarin een aantal bekenden zich verzamelen: The Kills-zangeres Alison Mosshart, Jack White op de drums en Dean Fertita van Queens of the Stone Age. En dan is er ook nog Jack Lawrence van The Raconteurs. Het album heet Horehound en dit is de eerste single. Treat Me Like Your Mother schuurt, scheurt is gruizig en boeit. Benieuwd of ze het ook een heel album kunnen waarmaken. De B-side cover van Tubeway Army, Are Friends Electric?, valt namelijk tegen.

Elizabeth and the Catapult - Taller Children

Trio uit Brooklyn, NYC. Het nummer gaat over alle mannen in Wall street die er een bende van gemaakt hebben de laatste jaren. Deze band klinkt wel heel erg poppy. Maar dit keer is dat geen diskwalificatie. Het geluid van de van de band is namelijk nieuw en fris. Ze bestaan twee jaar en hebben hun eerste album uit: Taller children.

The song's titular "taller children" are adults acting childishly. In the song, Ziman writes about one she calls Mr. Wall Street Wonder. As it starts, his life is perfect. Then comes what she calls the breakdown section. It's written in 13, an odd time signature, to make it feel more unsettling. After this section, the vocals are layered over and over to create the sense that it is, in the words of band mate Danny Molad, a chorus of lost people. - interview NPR.org.

Even vrolijk worden? Graag. Maak kennis met The Sweet Serenades. She's not easy. Jawel het gaat om een vrouw. Deze rockers gaan los met groot gemak. Ik vind het een erg leuk nummer van deze band uit Zweden. Album: balcony sigarettes. De band: "the sound is mainly influenced by great songs, broken hearts, sexual frustration and musical acts as Tom Waits, Clap your hands say yeah, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, ACDC, Eddie Meduza, ABBA, The Technicolors, The Perishers, The Shins and many more."

Lighten up with this band from Sweden. These 'old' fashioned rockers are fun. Album: Balcony Sigarettes.
